These policy briefs (or research papers) were put together to help show the impacts of institutions on the lives of people labelled with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

These briefs show real-life situations and practical recommendations to improve the lives of people who are institutionalized.

There are five briefs covering different topics affects people labelled with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Each brief is also available in a plain language version.

This research was done for People First of Canada and Inclusion Canada's Joint Task Force on Deinstitutionalization. This is part of a project called "Invisible Institutions." This project hopes to learn more about the experiences that people labelled with an intellectual or developmental disability have with institutions. The project also hopes to learn more about the gaps in information about people living in institutions.
